The story continues at Hampton High School, led by the strict and uncompromising Principal Johnson, known to students as “Ole Boulder Head.” When a forgotten fax reminds the staff that Child Abuse Awareness Month has arrived, teachers must quickly organize a student assembly with speeches addressing the topic. Several students volunteer. Then a quiet ninth-grader named Fatima Anderson takes the stage. Instead of delivering a traditional speech, Fatima begins describing a dreamlike journey toward a place she calls Garden City, a place she remembers from stories shared by her mother.
As the story goes on, she travels through strange and symbolic landscapes. In Clone Towne, entire communities have collapsed under the weight of neglect and abuse. On the road toward Garden City, she encounters travelers who reveal painful truths about grief, indifference, and the choices people make when confronted with suffering.
